POSITION:  Pupil Transportation Van/Type 10 Vehicle Cover/Trip Driver

LOCATION:  Transportation Department

HOURS:  Varies/On Call As Needed (Part-time up to 30 hours a week)

WORK DAYS: Monday - Friday and Weeknds included

SALARY:  $20.62 - $29.40 Per Hour (Range D)

Job Purpose Statement/s:  The position of Pupil Transportation Van/Type 10 Vehicle Cover/Trip Driver transports students to and from school and to school related activities within the District and outside the District when regular drivers are absent, and/or covering field trips/athletic trips that regular drivers cannot do when a van is needed for transporting small groups, or students with physical disabilities or other special needs. This position will drive a van or other type 10 vehicle (as defined by ODE and ODOT), equipped for transporting students.

Job Requirements - Qualifications:

Skill in operating a van or other Type 10 vehicle in a safe and lawful manner during varying weather, road, and traffic conditions, and the ability to recognize when conditions are unsafe for operation.

Operate a vehicle for extended periods of time for over-the-road special activity trips and to drive safely in unfamiliar surroundings, varying from congested city streets to mountain roadways. 

Develop rapport with students and maintain discipline among students while they are being transported.

Ability to be aware of and respond promptly to the physical and emotional needs of students with disabilities.

Ability to think clearly and make sound decisions in unusual and emergency situations.

Knowledge of traffic signs and devices, safe motor vehicle driving techniques, and how to use city and highway maps.  

Knowledge of first aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation techniques.

Ability to learn and apply the laws, rules and regulations governing: the operation of a van or other type 10 vehicle, traffic safety, passenger loading and unloading, and student discipline.  Learn specific bus routes, complete scheduled routes in a timely manner, and adjust to periodic changes in schedules and routes.  Recognize potential mechanical and safety equipment problems and be able to explain these problems to mechanics.  

Ability to write legibly and to make clear, brief, factual written and oral reports.

Ability to establish and maintain professional and effective working relationships.

Evaluation:  Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's Policy on Evaluation of Support Staff Personnel.
